Drifting.
Aimlessly.
“Maybe I’ll do this today…”
“Maybe I’ll go here…”
“Ooh, that looks fun, let’s do that…”
No sense of direction.
No grasp on purpose.
No discernment of intention.
Just living.
Hoping for today to end so tomorrow can come.
This is a reality for a lot of people nowadays.
No clear sight into the future, wondering why it feels like they’re stuck in a loop and not accomplishing much.
The truth is, you are accomplishing a ton, but in all the wrong directions.
You’re taking 1 step in 10 directions instead of taking 10 steps in 1 direction. Night and day difference.
Goals are the hidden treasure of life. Being able to goal set is your map to find the chest. Discipline is the key that unlocks the chest.
Without having a proper strategy and the knowledge to know where you want to go, you’ll just be throwing darts at a dartboard with a blindfold on.
Truth is, you’ve been lied to and the “goals” you think you’re chasing now are only to the benefit of people who couldn’t give less of a shit about you.
You could die tomorrow and I guarantee you they won’t even send your mom a fucking postcard.
You need to learn the truth behind goal setting, what it is, how to properly utilize it, and how to best benefit in your life from it.
Sure, we’ve all had people try and teach us how to set goals.
“I have to get that job”, or “lose that weight”, or “graduate this program”, etc. But, no one has ever told you how exactly to put an action plan in place to make that shit happen.
That’s where the magic is.
We can all say we’re striving towards a “goal”, but are you really?
If you goal is to lose x pounds, what did you actively do in the last 24 hours to inch yourself closer to that goal? Did you do nothing, ultimately pushing yourself further away from that goal?
Even worse, did you tell yourself you “deserve” that treat when you had absolutely no basis besides your selfish brain telling you that and move yourself further from that goal?
No wonder nothing is happening, no wondering you’re not accomplishing amazing things, no wonder you’re not proud of yourself - you have no idea what you’re doing.
You’ve just been told “yeah you should work towards that thing”, so you say “sure, let’s do that”, but then have precisely zero fucking idea how to do that.
It’s truly not your fault.
There is a whole industry of people who make millions and millions of dollars telling you what you should do, but never actually tell you how to do it. They make money off of keeping you ignorant.
Not here, my friend. I’m going to go over exactly how I goal set and exactly what I’ve implemented in my life to start building the life I want and having a sense of satisfaction and pride every single day I jump out of bed.
I’ve never felt more fulfilled doing something in my entire life fucking EVER, and I want each of you to feel exactly how I feel - and goal-setting is the essence of it.
Learning how to set proper goals and smash them out of the park is something that will absolutely revolutionize your life.
Imagine waking up each day, smashing your check list out the park, fulfilling all of your duties with ease, and going to bed knowing you took a step closer to the life you want to live.
????
Isn’t that what we all want?
No more dreading waking up because you know you have to goto a life-sucking job for 9 hours with a 1 hour commute each way, no more feeling zero pride when you finish a big project, no more hating your day-to-day.
We’re going to learn how to set goals for your personal life so that you’re able to feel a sense of accomplishment when you do something, actually take pride in your work, and take steps each and every day towards the life you want to live.
Let me learn you a little something.
There are 3 defined “steps” or buckets that I need you to fully understand and grasp.
You’ll notice there isn’t a ton of technical information on here - that’s the point. Realize - most of this stuff is mental.
You’re constantly in your own way - scared to fail, scared to get judged, scared to get screenshot and put in the group chat, scared to lose, etc.
You’re the only person in the way.
Follow this 3-step framework and start feeling more accomplished today.
The very first thing you need to know is what your dream life looks like.
Before you get all “bro that’s what everyone says”, fucking listen you monkey. Disregard all bias and just soak in this section - I promise I’m going somewhere with this.
You need to envision your dream life so deeply that when you close your eyes, you can fucking taste it.
Your brain’s synapses should fire so fucking hard when you think of it that you feel like your head is going to catch on fire when you think of it.
Not “oh yeah, living somewhere on the west coast would be nice, I guess”.
Fucking “I want to live in downtown LA on Main street in a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom fucking crib with floor to ceiling windows, hardwood floors, blacked out furniture, and an 85-inch TV on the wall.”
This is where the concept of vision boards find their place. I personally don’t use them because I think they’re a bit corny, but if it helps, it helps.
Try making one and keeping it handy if that’s your thing. Personally, not my cup of tea, though.
Once you have your dream life laid out so clearly that you can literally feel it when you close your eyes and reach out, you’re ready for the next step.
2) Realize You’re Fucking Delusional
This is a key step in keeping yourself grounded.
When you mentally masturbate to your dream life idea, it’s going to make your life feel like complete shit.
Realize that whatever your dream is, it’s going to take your entire life to get there, comma, and that’s okay.
We’re here for the journey, not for the destination. While I can’t personally attest, I’ve heard multiple wealthy people on podcasts say that the journey is all the fun.
I’m not rich, so I can’t say the destination is no good (because it probably is pretty damn good), but I can say that I’m having a lot of fun in the process.
I was having a conversation with a friend recently and he asked me “if you could switch lives with Warren Buffet, would you” and I said absolutely the fuck not.
He already figured all the shit out, what else is there? He’s like prestige 1000 at business while I’m on level fucking -2.
But, that’s where all the fun comes in. You get to choose your path. You get to make your mark. You get to figure every little thing out.
I compare it to a video game. What’s the point of putting in the cheat code to goto the last level when the entire fun of the game is getting there?
Before you begin you journey on this path of self-development and business, you think you’d want to just skip everything and get to the end.
I thought the exact same thing before I started a little over a year ago. I can tell you first hand, that sounds like an absolute nightmare now.
Every single problem I have in life or business, I know there’s a solution to it. I know this because 1) the laws of physics say so and 2) someone else has already figured it out. What makes them so special?
Fact of the matter is, it’s okay to be delusional. It’s okay to dream big and have big aspirations and want to do insane, out of this world things.
Just realize that it’s going to take a lot of time, hard work, and resilience to get there. Those are the only 3 traits you need to make something of yourself in this world - I promise.
Here’s the meat of how to goal set. This is the technical stuff you need to implement in order to actually make progress on your goals.
I firmly believe the human brain can only comprehend and dive deep into a timeline of 3 years.
Anything before that is too short to make clinically substantial difference, and anything longer than that it’s too far out - it’s hard to see the light at the end of a 5-year tunnel, much less 10-year tunnel.
While you should have a vague outline of where you want to be at those marks, you can develop new goals on a 3-year timeline that will serve the same purpose and will be 10x more actionable.
That being said, you need to do a deep dive into the next 1, 2, and 3 years of your life.
Where do you want to be? How do you want your life to look? What exactly do you want to be doing?
The first step of this is to set one big goal that will be accomplished over the entire 3-year time horizon.
This can be quite vague since we’re going to go into
hyper detail in each of the years, but keep it realistic.
For example, My Big Goal is to work for myself & to retire my parents. That’s it. No more, no less.
By the time May 2027 rolls around, I want to be fully self-employed, working for myself, and generate enough income through my businesses and investment portfolio to allow my parents to never work another day in their life.
Pretty fucking lofty, but generally vague as well. That’s where I want to be in 3-years, so that’s my big goal.
That’s the north star that drives my actions every single day, and anything that doesn’t progress me towards this goal will be taken off my agenda. Simple.
Now that you have your big goal, you need to break down each of your years.
Now, this is going to get quite personal since I’ll be sharing exactly what the next 3-years of my life will look like in-depth with you, but fuck it. It’ll give you a basis to work off of.
Everyone know what SMART goals are, and that’s the framework that we’re going to be using to craft our goals. If you live under a rock and don’t know what they are, here’s a graphic explaining them. I’m not going to regurgitate what they are in this article since 1) it’s not my idea and 2) there’s plenty of resources online. Be a self-starter, figure it out.
For each and every year, you are going to write a detailed goal, an intro as to exactly what you plan to accomplish in the year, 3 key foundations you’re focusing on in the year, and a section on each of the categories in the SMART framework.
Remember when I said we’re going to get personal in this part?
Here’s exactly what I plan to do from May 2024-May 2025 to progress every single day towards my big goal.
Essentially, my goal is to land a single client for my business so I have a reliable client acquisition channel for the future, pay off all outstanding debt, and save money for my investment portfolio.
However, as you can see, it’s extremely specific as to exactly what I’m planning to do to make shit happen this year.
Every single day, I look back at this thing to make sure the actions I’m taking are in alignment with what my goal is.
Now, you want to do the same thing for year 2 & year 3. Here are mine:
Once you have all this information laid out, you now have a goal-setting bible that you can structure every single day off of.
If you’re doing things that move you away from your goal, you will know not to do it.
You can position your days to get things done that will only move you closer to your goal.
Every single day, you’re able to check something off your list that has brought you closer to the life you want to live at the end of the 3-year period.
If you do things every single day that bring you closer to that goal, it’s absolutely impossible to not be exactly where you say you will be in 3-years.
Here’s the kicker - even if you’re halfway to your dream life after 3-years, you’ll be light years ahead of where you are now. That’s the magic of it all.
As we stated in the section above, be fucking delusional. Have it not make sense. Think so illogical that people call you manic. That’s the only way to live an exceptional life.
I can make one promise to you: if you live a life of mediocrity because you’re scared of people calling you a dreamer, the regret on your deathbed will be far worse than the pain of judgement is now.
Always be chasing something. Never stop putting notches on your belt, tally marks on your personal achievement wall.
The day you stop is the day you stagnate. The day you stagnate is the day your downwards spiral starts.
Set goals, achieve them, repeat. That’s the essence of life my friend.
I believe in you.
Hope that helps.
